SM WRC Appreciation Day...1990s Style

by Frank Mejia, Self-Sufficiency Services Division Chief

On May 23rd, the SM WRC held our annual Employee Appreciation Day. This year’s theme was the 1990’s in honor of our 20th year of successfully helping families in our community achieve self-sufficiency in the CalWORKs program. It takes a village to make positive strides with those in our community we work with and we enjoy honoring ALL employees for their part in helping us a achieve success…20 years and counting!

Our day started with supervisors serving each staff member a delicious continental breakfast at the desks of each employee, while Division Chief Frank Mejia visited each employee in the building to present them each with a certificate of appreciation and to say a few words of thanks and appreciation for the hard work they do for clients and the team.

Throughout the day, Staff Development hosted mini training sessions where participants were asked to join The Terminator (a.k.a. Mark Laurel) and the team of “Resistors” on their quest to stop the futuristic (and fictional) artificial intelligence “Cyberdyne” from their attempts to prevent the launch of our new CW2.0 initiative. Teams during the training were given riddles and sent on a quest throughout the building to find answers to the riddles help ensure the successful launch of CW 2.0.

A photo booth was set up in an empty office where staff had lots of fun taking pics!

A delicious chicken and tri-tip BBQ lunch was served by supervisors and DC for all to enjoy. The employee led Encouraging the Heart Committee once again helped sponsor the costs of the day and provided employees with a delicious ice-cream dessert in the afternoon to cap off a fun filled and appreciative day!
