Promotion for Andres Maldonado

by Mekala Manus, Compliance Division Chief

I am so pleased to announce the promotion of our newest Eligibility Supervisor: Andres Maldonado! Andres will be supervising both Lompoc and Santa Barbara Fair Hearings/IEVS/Collections units. Read on to learn more about Andres!

Andres began his DSS career in August 2012 as a dually trained Medi-Cal and CalFresh Eligibility Worker for the BSC. In May 2014, he volunteered and was selected to be one of the pioneers of the ongoing “caseload” unit, where he remained until he promoted to Lead Worker in November 2015. Due to the 2017 budget cuts, Andres was then was displaced to EW II, but this afforded him an opportunity to explore the intake function at the Betteravia office and expand his skills. They soon took advantage of those skills and assigned Andres to the Betteravia ongoing caseload unit as an Acting Lead from February 2018 to June 2018. Additionally, he completed Expedited Services assessments and processed applications, which further developed his skills and helped him become well-rounded in all facets of eligibility work for the CalFresh and Medi-Cal programs.

A permanent EW III opportunity arose in December 2018 and Andres joined the Compliance Division. He fit seamlessly into the team and specialized in processing Integrated Fraud Detection and other complex federal IEVS reports. Along the way, Andres has been a member of the BSC Think Tank, volunteered as a youth soccer coach, and is currently a Subject Matter Expert on the Region 5 CalSAWS IEVS committee. He and his teammates are on the forefront of CalSAWS implementation and are helping to prepare the division for the major changes coming with CalSAWS. Andres has a an AA in Liberal Studies from Allan Hancock College, and a Bachelors’ degree in Business Administration from the University of Laverne.

Andres will be stationed at the Lompoc office and is excited to begin his new assignment on April 6. Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Andres on his promotion to Eligibility Supervisor!
