by Daniel Nielson, Director
As you may or
may not know, some of our allocations this year were less than anticipated,
including in the CalWORKS program, where we received $1.4 million less than the
prior year and $700,000 less than anticipated.
We have been assessing these revenue reductions, and have decided on non-labor cuts and
project delays until additional one-time funding is received. However, these reductions will not be enough to cover our shortage, and we will
need to move approximately 12 staff between programs. Your Executives,
managers and fiscal/budget staff have been working to determine which
transfers will need to be made in order to align staffing levels with the
CalWORKS funding, and to find opportunities to maximize funding in other program
areas.
The
approximately 12 staff impacted will be contacted individually in the very near
future (by the end of the day Monday), and will be given a two week transfer
notice. For those of you being transferred to another program, your
questions will be addressed at the time you are notified of the transfer. For the rest of you, questions about this matter should be taken to your
supervisor, manager or Deputy. For those staff remaining in the CalWORKS
program, communication from your managers will occur in the coming days and
weeks regarding any re-prioritization and re-distribution of duties.
My heartfelt
thanks to all of you for your continued commitment to this department and the
work we do for our community.
