Welcome new CWS sups, Barrick and Parat

by Deborah Hartman, CWS Division Chief

Please join me in welcoming two new members to our CWS supervisory team…Cheyenne Barrick and Janet Parat! Their effective date is January 2, 2017.

Cheyenne is a Lompoc native, living most of her life in Santa Barbara County. She graduated from UCLA in 2012 where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While at UCLA, Cheyenne worked with AmeriCorps and helped provide legal assistance to self-represented litigants in Los Angeles County. She also lived and interned in Washington, D.C. during her final months at UCLA, working at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law and Policy in the Federal Relations division. After graduating from UCLA, Cheyenne participated in the USC School of Social Work distance learning program, where she earned her Master of Social Work in 2013. She provided therapeutic services at Aegis Medical Systems in Santa Maria and also took part in the pilot online counseling program USC Telehealth. Cheyenne began working with Child Welfare Services in Santa Barbara County in 2013. She has worked in Santa Maria Ongoing, Countywide Ongoing, and the Court Services units. Over the past year, Cheyenne has served as a Court Hearing Officer in the Court unit. She completed the Leadership Professional Development Program in 2015 and is currently participating in Leadership Lompoc Valley. Cheyenne is also a member of the Safety Organized Practice (SOP) and Linkages committees.

Janet earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Colorado State University and then worked as an eligibility worker in Colorado. Later, Janet relocated to the Bay Area, and worked with attorneys and their clients (parents and children) in the juvenile dependency system. This included attending home visits for children's attorneys, attending TDM's for parents, and assisting parents with their court ordered case plans. Janet earned her Master of Social Work degree from San Diego State University. Her clinical internships with her MSW program included providing counseling for pregnant and parenting teenagers, and providing a CSEC training to staff at that same agency. Janet was trained in Safety Organized Practice at the County of San Diego, Child Welfare Services, where she managed a mixed case load of both "Court" and "Ongoing" cases. During the past three years, Janet has worked in the Court Unit at the County of Santa Barbara, and also was a Court Hearing Officer.

Congratulations Cheyenne and Janet on your promotions!
