Free screenings of important documentary

by Dennis Tivey, Communication & Outreach Coordinator

In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month this April, the Santa Barbara County Child Abuse Prevention Council is proud to present free screenings countywide of the one-hour documentary film "RESILIENCE: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope." Please see this printable flyer for locations, dates and times.

Researchers have found that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)—such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction—cause toxic stress that can alter brain development, with potential lifelong effects including increased risk of physical and mental illness, substance abuse, and family violence. RESILIENCE chronicles the birth of a new movement among pediatricians, therapists, educators and communities, who are using cutting-edge brain science to help parents and children disrupt the cycle of violence, addiction and disease.

Please join us for a free screening of RESILIENCE in Santa Ynez, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, or Lompoc, followed by an expert panel discussion and/or facilitated community dialogue. Feel free to share the flyer with anyone who works with children and families, whether in Social Services, schools, clinics, churches, law enforcement, and so on.
