CalWORKs student honored at Allan Hancock College

by Frank Mejia, CalWORKs Division Chief, WRC

Xochitl Ibarra, a CES Senior at the Santa Maria WRC, recently had the pleasure of presenting one of her Welfare to Work clients with the prestigious Allan Hancock College (AHC) "CalWORKs Student of the Year" award.

Her client was one of several CalWORKs/Welfare to Work (WTW) clients recognized and honored for their success at AHC this year, at the college's Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Banquet in Santa Maria on May 6. Other WTW staff were on hand at the ceremony, along with our Deputy Director Maria Gardner, to celebrate our clients. This annual event is a great reminder of all the work our staff do to help many clients on their path to self-sufficiency.

Following the event, Xochitl received a nice kudos letter from AHC.

We are honored to share a strong collaboration with AHC to best serve our mutual clients and to celebrate the success of each of our clients and their families that we serve. Congratulations to Xochitl for her work with our new CalWORKs Student of the Year!

EOPS is a state-funded program designed to provide financial assistance, support, and encouragement for eligible low-income students, including CalWORKs/WTW clients. For more information about Hancock's EOPS program, click here.
