Garcia division has creative Employee Appreciation Day

by Nancy Saengjaeng, DBS II, WRC

On May 23, staff from the Rene Garcia division spent time off-site to celebrate a memorable Employee Appreciation Day at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Barbara. Here's a great slide show of pictures (and survey results) from the event.

Our Employee Appreciation Day couldn't have come at a better time given the climate of layoffs and displacements notices that recently went out. For a brief moment, we paused and took time to recognize and appreciate one another, minimizing stress, and building stronger relationships.

Activities included an exercise in gratitude where the staff shared what they are thankful for, a lesson on how to build the World's Best Team, ergonomic exercises, and activities to learn more about each other. One of the day’s favorite happenings was the "Wine & Design" (Wine=Sparkling Apple Cider) team building exercise where staff combined working together with artistic creativity using blank canvases and acrylic paints. Co-workers collaborated and created masterpieces in a relaxed and peaceful environment.

The day proved to be filled with fun, meaningful, and engaging interactions. Not only did the staff feel appreciated but the day also reinforced the value of their presence and their work. Good food and a spectacular view of the Santa Barbara coastline enhanced our overall experience.
