DSS presents on CalWORKs 2.0 in webinar

DSS staff gather to watch the webinar
By Yolanda Salgado-Tovar and Nancy Saengjaeng

Santa Barbara County DSS joined a recent state webinar to share the successes we have had and lessons we have learned while integrating and implementing CalWORKs 2.0. The County was represented by Mark Laurel and Esther Herrera, who have been leaders in our county's implementation efforts. The September 12 webinar, which focused on implementing CalWORKs 2.0 in group settings, provided a forum for counties to come together and support each other in moving forward in their shared mission.

As in other counties across the State, DSS employees in North and South County congregated in various conference rooms or tuned in from their desks to watch the webinar and hear the latest regarding CW 2.0. By tuning in, they learned strategies for using group workshops to teach, model and practice the goal achievement framework. The webinar also provided guidance on how to maximize the effectiveness of groups.

The County has come to realize the new approach will better help us meet the needs of the population that we are currently serving who often have significant barriers. It has always been the mission of the DSS to put our clients first. In that vein, it only made sense that SBC, in a united front, pave the way for other counties in the State in meeting clients where they are.
