JOB$ Success Story

by Steve Hernandez, JOB$ Coordinator

Read on for the success story of "Kerry" -- another CW/WTW client who obtained employment through the JOB$ Program!

Kerry recently moved back to Santa Maria from out of state. She was exempted from Welfare-to-Work Program due to her child being under the age of two years. She opted to volunteer for her participation because she was ready to search for employment opportunities.

Kerry and her case manager decided that Job Club would be in her best interest since she was motivated to secure employment. Although she did not find employment during Job Club, she did manage to obtain a vast amount of knowledge, skills and tools needed to advance in the customer service industry. Kerry was placed in the JOB$ Program in the medical field, assisting an office with other volunteers. She demonstrated her exceptional customer service skills and maintained excellent attendance.

Kerry received outstanding reviews from the JOB$ Site Supervisor regarding her punctuality and work ethic. Her experience prior to this position was in the fast food and retail industry and working on production lines. Taking on a position in the administrative field was challenging for her, but she was motivated and ready for this is new challenge in her working career.

Kerry’s experience in the JOB$ Program has helped her build the confidence and ability to take on new challenges. It has enhanced her customer service skills and given her the opportunity to gain a new set of skills and experiences. Most importantly, Kerry has had the confidence and motivation to apply for administrative positions she never thought she could not do. With the support of her Career Employment Specialist, Kerry applied for an administrative position with the County of Santa Barbara. She passed the pre-employment testing, interviewed and was offered a full-time permanent position with Santa Barbara County.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to her in her county career!
