| No TP shortage can keep the BSC down...this is how we roll! |
April was quite a month! On any normal day at BSC, the calls keep coming and our staff
continually rise to meet the challenges of program changes and increasing call
volume. With the rapid unfolding of the
COVID-19 pandemic, BSC entered into April 2020 operating with only two-thirds
of full staffing. By mid-April, our
staffing resources had dwindled to 50% of staffing, and as we said goodbye to
April staffing levels were slightly better, with about 46% of our staff out due
to PTL, LOA, and vacancies. We know that
most areas of our department were experiencing similar pain.
As we approached the last week of April, we decided to celebrate surviving the month by sporting our favorite “logo” t-shirts on April 30, and that was just the start. Read on to learn more and see pictures!
We invited staff to
wear shirts with messages and/or images that were funny, inspirational, motivational,
a favorite keepsake from a special vacation or event, or representative of a
favorite sports team. We also suggested
that units could decorate their unit area in the same vein. Prizes sweetened the deal, with $10 Starbucks
cards gifted to individual winners, and a $25 Panera gift card for the unit
winner.
In a happy coincidence, April 30 was also selected by the Director and management team as cupcake day, to thank
all staff who have been here holding down the fort and serving clients to cover
for a high percentage of our peers who needed to be away from the office due to
personal and family needs. If that
wasn’t enough celebration for one day, we ended the day and month on an even
sweeter note; our Sprouting the Spirit committee sponsored jelly bean day by
offering individual Jelly Belly packets to staff. National Jelly Bean Day was actually April 22,
but due to COVID-19 shipment delays, our Jelly Belly packets arrived too late
to celebrate earlier in the month. I
think we all agree, the timing ended up being perfect.
Check out these captioned photos of the winners!
Despite the uncharted territory of dealing with a worldwide pandemic and all that means in our personal and work lives, morale is up at BSC. Fun and laughter is good medicine.
