March was a month of intense emotion and uncertainty around COVID-19 — from social distancing, stay-at-home orders, increased workload, and a shortage of staff, to change after change in business processes due to regulation waivers. It was clear that emotions were high around the world, our country, and our community, but most importantly within our work environment. To help minimize tensions, we started Spirit Week in the Robinson Division from Monday March 30 through April 3. Read on to learn more and see pictures!
With minimal face-to-face client contact, staff embraced the idea that proved to be an outlet for many who welcomed the camaraderie and the silliness of the daily themed days.
Monday: Show your solidarity: wear red, white & blue
Tuesday: Support the unsung heroes providing essential services: Superhero day
Wednesday: We made it halfway: wacky Wednesday, wear wacky clothing
Thursday: Put on a brave face: wear camouflage or military gear
Friday: We can do it! Show your team spirit by wearing your favorite sports team gear
During spirit week, we laughed and lessened the pressures and anxieties of this difficult time. Some modeled for pictures as others quietly participated. Not during any other occasion have I seen most of my peers participate in an event. So much so that by popular demand weekly themed days continued; Wacky Wednesdays and Fun Fridays were born. These days are uplifting and have brought smiles to people’s faces. It is true that “life is better when you’re laughing”. Stay safe and remember to smile!
