Saengjaeng Division & Outstation Reorganization

by Nancy Saengjaeng, Division Chief

In anticipation of the new trainees finishing their training and joining our Division next month, we are taking the opportunity to make assignment changes in an effort to balance out our units and workloads. We are also working to ensure our changes support our goal of improving efficiency. Read on to learn more.

Medi-Cal/CalFresh Trainees Coming!

Six eligibility workers will be completing their formal induction training and joining the units in mid-July. Please welcome Evan Baumann, Zelzy Bobadilla, Diana Gil Bueno, Claire Hurst, Cynthia Velazquez, and Karla Jacinto! They will soon report to Maria Dwyer, Rosa Gonzalez, and Carmen Rodarte.  These supervisors are happy to have them join the unit as their new EWs.

New EWIII Lead--Patty Lopez

Her promotion was announced on June 5th.  She will assume lead responsibility for Carmen’s unit effective 7/13/20.

Other EW Reassignment—Diana Aguirre

Since Patty will be learning the traditional EWIII lead worker role in Carmen Rodarte’s unit, Diana will be reassigned to Hector Mendez’s unit as a Floater.  The supervisors have also taken into account the requirements to implement the Outstation Redesigned Project.

Outstation Redesigned Project

Prior to COVID-19, your leadership team had begun to examine the way our outstation sites were being managed.  Using the feedback staff provided, the model was redesigned to improve transparency, work equity, and build new skills in staff.  We will not know how effective the new model will be until we resume our outstation activities.  For now, outstation activity remains mostly on hold due to COVID-19.

Please understand that this is a work in progress and may need to be modified as we move forward.  We will always continue to look for ways to innovate.  If you have suggestions or ideas, send them upward to your supervisor.

Special thanks to the supervisors who have worked out the redesign details and are getting the project off the ground. Special thanks also to the current outstation workers who have been doing a wonderful job of representing our agency in a positive light.  Your knowledge and mentorship of new staff in this role will be vital in ensuring that our service does not skip a beat!

Physical Move

Some staff are moving that have been in their same workstations for quite some time!  We look forward to this change to improve our operations, and ready ourselves for further changes in the future. Due to business needs with hiring and training, balancing unit resources, and preparing for changes such as CalSAWS, this likely will not be the last reorganization our division will undergo. Please take this move as an opportunity for personal and professional growth.  Studies have shown that movement is healthy in order to promote creativity, boost performance, or develop new collaboration because of having new neighbors.  Change is a constant; working for DSS should prove that.  If nothing else, it is good time to clean and get rid of unnecessary accumulation of stuff.

Until then, please join me in wishing the above staff the best in their new assignments.
Keep up the excellence! Thank you for your flexibility and support of one another.  Please let me or any of the division supervisor know if you have any questions or concerns with the plan.
