Enhancing oneself through higher education is a priority of the Department. We believe that continual learning is a way to broaden your perspective, learn new things and provide a platform to become a stronger leader. In an effort to assist our employees with this, DSS has a generous Tuition and Textbook Reimbursement program. We encourage staff to take advantage of this benefit! Read on to learn more.
The Department has budgeted approximately $50,000 per year. Employees who pursue continued education with the goal of degree completion or continuing education/training related to the functions of the Department may request reimbursement for tuition and required textbook reimbursement. Reimbursements will be limited to only classes/training that:
- are successfully completed with a passing grade (C or better for graded classes);
- are for classes that are required for a degree or certificate that would benefit the Department; or
- classes/trainings related to the functions of the Department.
The maximum annual reimbursement per fiscal year is:
- $550 ($185 per class) for classes taken in conjunction with obtaining an Associate’s degree or associate level certificate;
- $1,500 ($500 per class) for classes in conjunction with obtaining a Bachelor’s degree or bachelor’s level certificate which cannot be obtained at a community college;
- $2,000 ($667 per class) for classes in conjunction with obtaining a graduate degree or graduate level certificate;
- 50% of the cost, up to a maximum of $1,000 per year, for continuing education, training related to the functions of the Department, as well as for classes and certificate testing fees required for professional licenses that would benefit the Department.
- Maximum reimbursement rates for regular part-time employees shall be prorated based on their part-time percentage.
