Dusting, vacuuming and decluttering abounded during Spring
Cleaning days at DSS. After a 3-year hiatus, the tradition of setting aside one
day to clean our shared and personal spaces was brought back at all DSS
buildings, the week of June 10.
Facilities sponsored and facilitated the events. They
provided cleaning supplies, carts for surplus materials, empty bins and vacuum
cleaners. They even provided a delicious
variety of bagels, cream cheese and freshly brewed coffee to help set the mood
for the day.
Though getting everything cleaned in one day was a tall
order, much was accomplished. The process revitalized our shared environment. Bins
were full of obsolete files; one worker said she had cleaned out files from the
90s! By the end of the day, cubicles looked reorganized and wiped clean. The
surplus materials that were returned to the stockroom were used to restock
supply shelves, ultimately helping prevent the purchase of supplies that are not
needed. An added benefit of the day was
that the areas in Lompoc and Betteravia that will be reconfigured, are ready to
go.
Thank you to all who participated! The day was a success through great team effort. Facilities looks forward to making this a yearly tradition again.
