Amy Guerrero promoted to Lead

by Carolyn Robinson, Division Chief

I am pleased to announce the promotion of Amy Guerrero to lead worker of the Lompoc (LO) General Relief (GR)/CalFresh (CF)/Medi-Cal (MC) intake and ongoing unit. Read on to learn more about Amy!

Prior to joining DSS, Amy worked as an unpaid intern during college with Sonoma County Social Services department helping people find community resources for food, housing, and utility assistance. She then worked as a Case Manager at Telecare where she provided intensive case management for adults with severe mental illness. She helped them develop life skills such as money management, social and communication skills, and coping techniques as they worked towards their independent living.

This previous experience prepared Amy for her career with DSS which began in July 2006 as an extra-help Eligibility Worker (EW). She started Medi-Cal training in the SB Camino del Remedio office, and then two months later was hired in a permanent position in the SB intake outreach unit working with juvenile hall and adults recently released from prison.
In April 2008, she transferred to the Lompoc MC ongoing unit. In June 2008 there was a recruitment for EWIII at the Benefit Services Center (BSC), and Amy accepted a promotion to one of the positions. When returning from a leave of absence in January 2009, Amy was assigned as a lead in a MC case maintenance unit at the BSC. When the department decided to move to dual MC/CF EWs, Amy successfully completed CalFresh training in November 2009 and was then assigned to a dual case maintenance unit. In December 2010, for personal reasons Amy took a voluntary demotion to EWII, and requested a transfer to LO to be closer to home. She was granted a transfer into a vacancy in the LO GR/CF/MC unit, and a few months later she successfully completed GR training. When the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was implemented, because of her excellent customer service Amy was selected as one of our Plan Selection Agents working with clients who have questions before choosing a Covered California health plan.

Recently, Amy had the opportunity to work as the back-up unit lead while the lead worker was out on leave and after his retirement. She has worked collaboratively with her supervisor to improve unit business processes like implementing the daily distribution and use of the Business Intelligence pending report. Amy mentored three EWs reassigned from the BSC to the LO office. She provided them valuable procedural / process training and support, which contributed to their successful transition to intake.

Amy is a graduate of Sonoma State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Please join me in congratulating Amy on her new leadership assignment, which was made permanent effective 10/18/2021.
